PU professor presents paper in London

CHANDIGARH: A senior assistant professor at the University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS),PU,Dr Shruti Bedi presented a paper on ‘Terrorism and International Human Rights Law’ at an international conference of Jurists held in London. The conference was organised by the International Council of Jurists.

Entrance test schedule declared for MA courses

CHANDIGARH: DR SS Bhatnagar University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology (UICET),Panjab University (PU) has declared its admission schedule for Masters courses. The admissions would be based on the PU-CET (PG) 2013 Entrance Test,held from June 15 to 18.

PU dept to evaluate state finances

CHANDIGARH: The 14th Finance Commission of the Centre has engaged the Department of Economics of the Panjab University (PU) to carry out “Evaluation of State Finances” with respect to Punjab. A workshop is being organized at ICSSR on July 2 to elicit the views of eminent academics on the state of finances in Punjab.

Teacher held for rape attempt

AMBALA: Police arrested Sanjiv Kumar,a teacher,on charges of rape attempt of a minor. In her complaint,the victim had alleged that the teacher on June 17 had made advances towards her and attempted to rape her. She however,managed to escape. The police registered the case and arrested the teacher from the school Monday.

Selja inaugurates blood donation camp

AMBALA: Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Kumari Selja inaugurated a blood donation camp organized by the Ambala District Chartered Accountants Association at the Kumari Rukmani Devi Memorial Hall on Monday. Of the total 57 persons who volunteered to donate blood,50 were chartered accountants. Shelja appreciated the efforts of the people and asked them to conduct more such donation camps.

SBI celebrates anniversary by planting saplings

AMBALA: The main branch of the State Bank of India celebrated tree plantation day by planting saplings in the bank premises on Monday. The occasion was marked by planting sapling by the local MLA Anil Vij. The bank chief manager ANIL Chawla said that the branch was inaugurated in the year 1923 and its anniversary was celebrated by planting trees.

City donates Rs 15.67 lakh for Uttarakhand victims

CHANDIGARH: The traders of the city made a contribution of Rs 15.67 lakh for providing relief in the flood affected areas of Uttarakhand on Monday. UT Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Shayin held a meeting with different traders associations and the amount was collected. During the past week a sum of Rs 8.40 lakh was collected taking the total contribution to Rs 24 lakh.

Ramesh Lakia is Sirdi Sai Samaj chairman

CHANDIGARH: Ramesh Kalia was elected chairman of Sirdi Sai Samaj during elections held on Monday. Among the others elected was Anil Khurana as vice-president,Manoj Goel as general secretary,Nalin Acharya as secretary and Vikas Puri as treasurer.

No patients can consult doctors online

CHANDIGARH: On the Occasion of Doctor’s Day on Monday,National Skin Hospital,Mansa Devi Complex launched an online live consultation for the handicapped persons who cannot travel to skin clinics and hospitals. They would be able to avail this facility from their homes. Dr Vikas Sharma Chief Consultant Dermatologist said that the facility would help very sick patients who canot travel upto the skin clinics and centers.

SBI organises blood donation camp

CHANDIGARH: The State bank of India Monday organized a blood donation camp to help the Blood Bank Society,PGI,Chandigarh. The camp was inaugurated by N K Chari,Chief General Manager,State Bank of India,Chandigarh Circle. On the occasion,Chari said that State Bank of India,being alive to the problems of the community has always risen to the occasion in the past also and has liberally contributed to the cause of community welfare.
