Chandigarh: A 38-year-old Punjab Police constable was found dead at Punjab MLA Hostel in Sector 4 on Wednesday morning. The deceased has been identified as Gurvinder Singh,who was posted as a guard at the hostel. He is believed to have died of a heart attack. Police have sent his body to Government Multi Specialty Hospital (GMSH-16),for a post mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death. His family,based in Ludhiana,has been informed about his death.
Samjhauta blast case adjourned till Jan 22
Panchkula: The special NIA court,on Wednesday,adjourned the Samjhauta train blast case till January 22 ,when arguments on the framing of charges will be taken up. The blast accused Aseemanand and Lokesh Sharma were present in the court. There were no arguments and both sides agreed to defer the case till January 22, Aseemanands,defense counsel,advocate Nardev Sharma said. A special application was moved on December 10,by Lokesh Sharmas defence counsel,Ajay Kaushik,in the special NIA court ,wherein he had sought production of certain documents through which sanction was granted to the NIA by the Central government to probe the case.
Body of 87-yr-old donated to PGI
The Department of Anatomy,PGIMER,on Wednesday,received the body of 87-year-old Nasib Kaur,wife of Kartar Singh,a resident of Malerkotla. She passed away,on Wedensday,and the family members decided to donate her body to the institute for research work. PGI received its first cadaver in 2004 after a gap of almost 20 years.
IAS officer Gurdev Singh Brar dies
Chandigarh: A Punjab cadre IAS officer,Gurdev Singh Brar,has passed away,at his residence in Sector 7,Panchkula. He was a 75-year-old. Brar,who joined the Punjab Civil Services at the age of 23,served the Punjab government for 35 years,before retiring in 1995 as Additional Secretary,Punjab. During his stint,he served as Deputy Commissioner,Faridkot and Sangrur districts,Commissioner (Wakfs),Punjab,Haryana and Himachal Pradesh and held various other key positions. Bhog and Antim Ardas will be held on Febuary 3,at Sector 8 Gurdwara,located in Chandigarh at 12.30 pm.
