UT directs schools to follow SC guidelines for buses
Chandigarh: The UT State Transport Authority (STA) has issued instructions to principals of all government and private schools to ensure compliance of rules by school buses. The guidelines were laid down by the Supreme Court for the safety of school buses carrying children. The guidelines have been incorporated in permits issued to school buses by STA. These include painting the school buses yellow,having a first aid box,fitting the bus with speed governor of a specific standard and fitting the windows of the bus with horizontal grills. Other guidelines include having a fire extinguisher in the bus,separate space for school bags under the seats and having a qualified attendant. The drivers are required to have a minimum of five years of experience in driving heavy vehicles and drivers challaned more than twice will be barred from driving. The buses have to undergo mandatory fitness tests every year without which the permit cannot be renewed.
Gymkhana club manager released on bail
Panchkula: District Courts today released Gymkhana club manager SK Kaushal and his alleged accomplice Virender,who used to work with club caterers,on a bail bond of Rs 1 lakh each. Both were caught in a trap laid down by Haryana Vigilance on July 6 for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a private contractor. Since then,both were in judicial custody. The contractor,Harjit Singh,had constructed a swimming pool in the club. Singh is a complainant in the case,who had also alleged that Kaushal was threatening to issue a notice to him for faults in the swimming pool. He had alleged that Kaushal was asking for Rs 20,000. After allegedly accepting the money,Kaushal had handed over the cash to Virender. The Vigilance team,which was led by Inspector Madan Lal,registered a case under Prevention of Corruption Act.
Four arrested for illegally selling kerosene
Panchkula: The Panchkula police arrested four persons from a shop in Industrial Area Phase II here for allegedly selling kerosene illegally and recovered 650 litres of kerosene oil from them. Acting on a tip-off,Inspector Dharambir Singh,SHO of Police Station,Sector 20,along with security agents Jagpal Singh and Rajesh Kumar,raided the shop. Hari Ram and Munna,residents of village Abhaypur; Ghanshyam,resident of village Raipur Kaila,Chandigarh,and Sonu,residents of Rajeev Colony,were arrested on July 25 under Sections 7 and 10 of Essential Commodities Act and Sections 420,120-B of Indian Penal Code. They were produced in the court today,where they were released on bail.
Section 144 imposed around Raj Bhawan
Chandigarh: UT Administration has imposed Section 144 within 300 metres of Punjab Raj Bhawan. The order will be effective for a period of 15 days up to August 10. The orders prohibit assembly of five or more people,taking out processions,making speeches,raising slogans and carrying sticks.
Kargil victory commemorated in War Memorial
Chandigarh: The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha organised a programme at the Chandigarh War Memorial to commemorate the victory of Indian forces in Kargil War.
