A 30-year-old resident of Colony No 4 was allegedly raped by a resident of Bapu Dham colony in Industrial Area here on Saturday morning.

CHANDIGARH: A 30-year-old resident of Colony No 4 was allegedly raped by a resident of Bapu Dham colony in Industrial Area here on Saturday morning. The accused has been identified as Pappu,aged 43. The police have registered a case and the accused has been arrested. The police first took the victim to Government Medical College and Hospital ,Sector-32 for medical examination,but the victim’s husband Girish refused to let her be medically examined there saying that he did not trust the doctors. The victim was taken to General Hospital Sector 16 after a written undertaking was given by her husband. The results of the medical report was awaited till the filing of this report. Pappu had apparently given a loan of Rs 1 lakh to Girish,victim’s husband,and was regularly taking interest on it. Today,while Girish had gone to Solan the accused committed the crime.

Haematology conference concludes

CHANDIGARH: The three-day annual conference of Indian society of Haematology and Blood transfusion concluded today at PGI. Dr Manorama Sapre oration was delivered by Dr M Mahapatra,AIIMS,New Delhi during which he spoke about Chronic Lymphoid Leukemia (CLL),a type of slow-growing blood cancer affecting older patients. He spoke about challenges faced while deciding treatment for Indian patients. Talking on Thalassemia Prof. K Ghosh,Director,National Institute of Immunohaematology ,Mumbai stressed upon the fact that every effort should be made to prevent this genetic condition as there is no curative therapy other than stem cell transplant.

‘Ehsas’ fete at Hansraj Public School

CHANDIGARH: Spirits ran high as students of Hansraj Public School,Sector 6 enjoyed the event organised by ‘Ehsas’. The day started with a havan and blessings of the principal,Jaya Bhardwaj who also congratulated the ‘Ehsas’ team for this event. The fun fete had more than 50 stalls of food and games. A special stall was dedicated to ‘Ashiana’,the orphanage. The fete also featured a stunt show and DJ Nite. Teen voice,a social organisation of Hansraj entertained the students throughout.

Sector 8 resident gets child welfare award


CHANDIGARH: Prit Pal Singh,member of Juvenile Justice Board and a resident of Sector 8 has been given the National Award for Child Welfare,by the Government of India for his transforming lives of underprivileged slum children away from crime.

Blood donation camp

CHANDIGARH: Berkeley Automobiles Limited organised a blood donation camp at its premises in the Industrial Area here on Friday. A total of 251 blood units were collected at the camp,according to MD of the company Ranjeev Dahuja.
