Ambala:A local court on Friday sentenced ten people to life imprisonment for the murder of an Ambala resident. The ten: Amit,Abhishek,Amit Alias Babua,Radhe sham,Amandeep,Rajan,Sahil,Ankush,Amit and Shammi had been accused of murdering Amrender alias Baba,a resident of Charkhi Mohalla in Ambala city. According to the police,Amrender was attacked with sharp-edged weapons by the accused near DAV College. He was taken to hospital but doctors declared him brought dead.

E-governance talk organised

Chandigarh:First Friday Forum,a city-based monthly interaction programme organized a talk on “E-Governance: Cure for Corruption” by Pallav Mukherjee,Architect &ex-councillor,MCC here on Friday. The speaker talked about the various scams surfacing in the media and pointed out how both our natural and man-made assets are sold out by vested interests. He further emphasized on the need for e-governance to hold babus accountable and to ensure openness and transparency in governing processes

LIC holds blood donation camp

Chandigarh:As part of the 56th anniversary LIC and Insurance Week celebrations,the Chandigarh Division organised a blood donation camp at its divisional office. A team from the PGI blood bank was present at the camp,in which,around 171 people donated blood.

Nutrition week commemorated

Chandigarh:The staff of Nivedita Creches,PGI organised activities to commemorate nutrition week that is celebrated between September 1 and 7. Information was provided to parents and children,about nutrition and food choices,They were told about various food groups including water,dietary fat,carbohydrates,protein,vitamins and minerals.

Elderly educated about kidney issues

Chandigarh:Over 100 senior citizens attended a special session on ‘Management of Kidney Stones’ at Fortis Hospital in Mohali on Friday. A Guide ‘Eat Right With Kidney Stones’ authored by Dr A S Bawa,Director Urology,Fortis Hospital was also launched on the occasion. The guide reportedly provides information on how to avoid getting stones. Talking about the measures one should take to prevent stone occurrence and re-occurrence,Dr. Bawa stated: “One must take care of one’s lifestyle,ensure a high fluid intake.”
