Pedestrian killed

CHANDIGARH: A pedestrian was killed in a road accident near the poultry farm round-about in the city late on Monday evening. Police said Rajesh Rana,a resident of Sector 38 who used to work at a dhaba,was critically injured when he was hit by a car (CH-01-AF-0412). He was rushed to the rushed to GMCH-32,where he succumbed to his injuries. Driver Sansar Singh was arrested and later released on bail.

MLA holds durbar

Panchkula: Panchkula MLA Devender Kumar Bansal said on Tuesday that strict action would be taken against the officers found guilty of dereliction of duty. He was giving directions to the officers of concerned departments while redressing the grievances of the people at an ‘Open Durbar’ held at Sector-12A here. During the ‘Open Durbar’,residents of the sector put forth a number of demands,which included construction of roads,arrangement of street lights,parking facilities,construction of a community centre,setting up of two public toilets in the market,sewerage and drainage facilities,replacement of open wires by coated wires and an end to unauthorised parking of private vehicles from the market.

Guard kills self

CHANDIGARH: A private security guard committed suicide on Tuesday by hanging himself at his residence in Sector 34. The police said that Nand Kishore,25,was found hanging from fan by his wife Bindu Devi in the afternoon. She immediately informed the police and they reached the spot and lowered the body. Police said no suicide note was found from the spot. Kishore was rushed to GMSH-16 where doctors declared him ‘brought dead’. The police have registered a case.

Baba Pritpal gets bail

CHANDIGARH: Almost a year after he was arrested in connection with a cheating case,the Punjab and Haryana High Court granted bail to Baba Pritpal Singh,chairman of Gurdwara Gur Sagar Sahib near Sukhna Lake. Baba Pritpal has been behind bars for over a year. Pritpal,who was booked by the Chandigarh Police in another case of cheating,was granted bail last year in the said case. However,he was denied bail by the High Court in a cheating case registered against him by the Dera Bassi Police.
