Around Town : 20-yr-old scolded for coming home late,hangs self

A 20-year-old boy committed suicide by hanging himself in his Sector 22 residence on Thursday.

Chandigarh: A 20-year-old boy committed suicide by hanging himself in his Sector 22 residence on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Kunal. He was reported to be doing a hardware course and also taking music classes as he wanted to become a singer. According to police,Kunal was scolded for coming late to his house on Wednesday night. On Thursday morning,Kunal was found hanging in the drawing room of the house by his father. He was taken to GMSH-16,but was declared dead on arrival. Kunal’s father works in the UT Fire department.

BJP to launch agitation against BPL survey

Panchkula: The Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to launch an agitation against what it called botched survey of below-poverty-line persons. “The list is full of errors and many genuine cases have been omitted,” BJP leader in Panchkula Gian Chand Gupta said. “We will force the state to remove the disparities. We want action against those officials who did the BPL survey,” he added.

Killer cop finally dismissed from duty

Chandigarh: Chandigarh Police Sub-Inspector Ravinder Singh,who had been sentenced to life imprisonment by the High court for killing his wife was finally dismissed from service on Thursday. Singh was accused of murdering his wife with his service revolver in 1998. He had been not been dismissed from duty at the Industrial Area Police station.

Two arrested for chain snatching

Panchkula: Panchkula police,on Thursday,claimed to have solved a chain snatching case by arresting two suspects. The two accused were identified as Sanjit Kumar alias Andit of Rajiv Colony Panchkula and Chaman Lal Chimma of Ulhana Sonipat. The two had snatched the gold chain of Kamla Devi of Rajiv colony Panchkula on February 4.

Youth Akali Dal VP in 2-day police remand

Ambala: All India Youth Akali Dal vice-president,Gurjot Singh,was remanded to police custody for two day,on Thursday. The police pleaded that the gun with which he fired shots during a marriage party on December 2,2011 killed one person and injuring another.

Gang rape victim alleges conspiracy

Ambala: Gang rape victim Pankaj Shandilya,wife of Anti-Terrorist Front India president Viresh Shandilya has threatened to stage a dharna in front of the residence of the Union Home Minister at New Delhi. She informed the media that she was gang raped by six persons at a marriage in Ambala two months ago. She alleged that the police had joined hands with the rapists including master mind liquor contractor Pradeep Mittal. She also alleged that her statement under Section 164 were not recorded.
