Around 14,000 cases settled at lok adalats in Chandigarh

While 151 cases were disposed of by the Punjab and Haryana High Court, 13,795 cases were settled at a district court as lok adalats were held on Saturday.
Out of the total 351 cases listed about 151 FAO Motor Accident Claims Tribunals (MACT) matters were disposed of, including a high-profile one: Tanushree and others versus Rajender and others.
Meanwhile, a total of 13,795 cases were disposed of by fourteen benches headed by serving judicial officers during the National Lok Adalat at the District Court Complex, Sector 43, Chandigarh on Saturday.
Criminal compoundable cases, cases under Section 138 of Negotiable Instruments Act, bank recovery cases, MACT cases, matrimonial disputes, labour disputes, arbitration matters, other civil cases, municipal matters and traffic challans were taken up and disposed of with the consent of the parties, according to a release issued by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA).
The cases which were disposed of included three criminal compoundable ones, 1,570 under Section 138 of NI Act involving an amount of Rs 3.14 crore, 26 motor accident claims involving an amount of Rs 4.12 crore, 42 matrimonial/ family disputes, 91 civil suits and rent cases involving an amount of Rs 1.83 crore, 75 executions involving an amount of Rs 2.64 crore. Two criminal revisions, 29 miscellaneous crimes involving amount of Rs 23,000, 35 civil miscellaneous crimes involving amount of Rs 3.32 crore, 47 arbitration cases, one civil/ rent appeal, 21 cases of Section 125 of CrPC, 21 cases under DV Act, 23 untraced cases, 14 cases of Registrar of Companies Act/ Shop Act involving an amount of Rs 5,26,000, 21 criminal appeals involving amount of Rs 44.4 lakh, seven cases of Guardian/Succession Act, and 8,345 traffic challans by imposing a fine of Rs.75,19,630, were all settled.
In addition to above, 2,988 caseswere disposed of by Permanent Lok Adalat, 23 pre-litigative cases involving an amount of Rs 12.25 lakh, 54 cases were settled in Permanent Lok Adalat (Continuous) involving an amount of Rs 3,00,000, 19 labour dispute cases, 300 debts recovery tribunal cases, and 73 consumer court cases were also disposed of.
