Despite being at the receiving end and two games down,Aneesh held on to his nerves and played some of the best shots of the match in the last few games,as he came back from the jaw of defeat and won 6-4 against Mankirat in the first round match of the boy’s Under-10 category,in the DC Model Open Total tennis tournament being played at DC Model School,Sector 7,on Saturday.
In the match that lasted for over an hour,there were twists and turns and both the players had their moments. Going neck to neck at 2-all,Mankirat suddenly applied breaks on Aneesh’s ambition as he put his opponent under pressure. As a result,Aneesh made four unforced errors and lost the fifth game to Mankirat. He was once again hampered by poor shot selection as he lost the sixth game also.
Looking to seal the match,Mankirat exerted more pressure on Aneesh. However,Aneesh held his nerves and played some solid ground strokes from the baseline to make a superb comeback into the match. He won the next four games in succession to win the match 6-4.
Meanwhile,in a lop-sided match,Jaspreet thrashed Harsh 6-0,Sartaj breezed past Beer Anmol 6-0,in the boy’s Under-10 and -12 categories respectively. Manvir also booked his berth in the next round of the boy’s Under-12 category by outplaying his opponent Garvit 6-0. In another tough encounter,Amitoj edged past his opponent Bhavjot 6-4.
