For the better part of the final match, players of both Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 22 and Carmel Convent School,Sector 9,were seen trying to maintain their balance while kicking the ball became an arduous task. On a rain-soaked Tuesday, the pitch became a pool and the slippery ground added more misery on the struggling 22 players present on the pitch. However, there was a moment,a spark, that changed the face of the match.
Anjali,in a moment of brilliance, just managed to kick the ball hard enough to beat the Carmel Convent keeper,as the ball trickled past the custodian to reach the back of the net. The GMSSS-22 were up by 1-0 and keeping the lead intact for the rest of the match, managed to beat Carmel Convent-9 to win the Inder-School Football Tournament for Under-17 girls at Government Model Senior Secondary School in Sector 22. Anjali scored the goal in the 43rd minute.
After some impressive performances in the tournament, the GMSSS-22 team entered the final as the favourites to win the title. However, some solid defending by Mount Carmel defenders and water-logged pitch prevented them from making a decent attack on the Mount Carmel goal. It was Anjali who rode on luck and after a defensive lapse from the Mount Carmel defenders, managed to score to put GMSSS-22 ahead.
