Anil Vij hands over Rs 5L to 16-year-old suffering from aplastic anemia

“Upon hearing about the boy’s condition, Health Minister Anil Vij had released Rs 15 lakh from the National Child Health Programme. The funds were used to cover the cost of the treatment and other medical expenses. The health minister’s timely intervention has given the boy a new lease of life and has brought hope to his family.

The boy is undergoing treatment at PGIMER, Chandigarh,” a government spokesperson said.

“The boy and his family members thanked Anil Vij. Dr Kuldeep Singh, Civil Surgeon, Ambala, Dr Hitesh and others were present on the occasion,” the spokesperson said.

“The boy’s family had earlier appealed to Health Minister Anil Vij to provide financial assistance for the treatment. At the time, this disease was not included in the National Child Health Programme. This is the first case of aplastic anemia in Haryana under which a total financial assistance of Rs 15 lakh could be given to the child for treatment.

Aplastic anemia is a disease related to anemia in which there is less formation of blood cells in the body. The treatment and medicines for this disease are expensive, but due to the efforts of the health minister, a provision has been made to provide financial assistance for this disease by including it in the National Child Health Programme.

Under the programme, congenital diseases in children below 18 years of age are covered and the amount is provided before the treatment. Under the programme, financial assistance of Rs 4.09 crore has been given to 416 children in Ambala district since 2014,” said Dr Kuldeep Singh, Civil Surgeon, Ambala.
