An unprecedented number of 110 DGPs Commendation Discs have been awarded to policemen for devotion and dedication to duty at Anandpur Sahib security arrangements for 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur.
However, the bulk of the awards have gone to IPS and PPS officers ranking from Special DGP to DSP.
As per the orders issued by DGP Gaurav Yadav on December 3, these officers/officials have been awarded Director General of Police Commendation Disc for performing their duties with “utmost zeal, devotion and dedication”.
A senior Punjab Police officer confirmed that this mass award of the commendation disc was for the security arrangements at Anandpur Sahib in November for the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur.
The Indian Express accessed the list of 110 awardees and found that it included 21 IPS officers, 74 PPS officers, one Inspector, two Sub Inspectors, 10 Assistant Sub Inspectors, one Head Constable and one Constable. Those at the cutting edge of security duties have hardly found any mention while supervisory officers, including senior-most IPS officers in the state, have walked away with almost all the honours.
Among the top IPS officers of the state cadre who got the DGPs Commendation Disc for Anandpur Sahib are three Special DGPs. These are Arpit Shukla, Special DGP Law and Order, PK Sinha, Special DGP Intelligence and Chief Director Vigilance and AS Rai, Special DGP Traffic and Road Safety.
Next in line are two ADGPs, including Naunihal Singh, ADGP Internal Vigilance Cell and SPS Parmar, ADGP Law and Order. Baljot Singh Rathore, IGP GRP and S Bhoopathi, IGP Provisioning are the next senior officers to get the disc.
Also among the awardees are eight DIGs, including Jagadale Nilambari Vijay, DIG Faridkot Range, Rajpal Singh, DIG PAP-II, Naveen Singla, DIG Jalandhar Range, Sukhwant Singh Gill, DIG Intelligence-I, Nanak Singh, DIG Ropar Range, Gurmit Singh Chauhan, DIG AGTF, Naveen Saini DIG Crime and SK Rampal DIG STF.
Three SSPs have also got the disc including Gulneet Khurana, SSP Ropar, Sandeep Kumar Malik, SSP Hoshiarpur and Shubham Aggarwal, SSP Fatehgarh Sahib.
Commandants of PAP Battalions, IRB Battalions and Commando Battalions have also been awarded the disc in addition to some ADCP ranked IPS officers. The list has 74 PPS officers ranked from Commandant down to DSP who have been recognised for good work.
The solitary Inspector to be awarded the disc is Ashok Kumar while Balbir Singh and Davinder Kumar are two Sub Inspectors who figure in the list. Ten Assistant Sub Inspectors follow namely Gurdeep Singh, Sunil Kumar, Gurjinder Singh, Amandeep Singh Dhillon, Sanjeev Kumar, Satgurpal Singh Rashpal Singh, Paramjit Singh, Manoj Kumar and Raj Kumar.

A massive force of approximately 10,000 police personnel was deployed in Anandpur Sahib under the supervision of an ADGP rank Nodal Officer, while, seven IGs/DIGs rank officers, 22 Commandants, 45 SPs, and 94 DSPs were deployed to ensure peaceful event.
A high-tech control room had also been established in the city, integrated with more than 300 AI-enabled CCTV cameras equipped with facial recognition, 10 PTZ cameras, and 25 ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras at all entry and exit points of the city. Seven drone teams provided continuous aerial surveillance.
