Amitoze’s century lifts Patiala

Batting in the middle-order,Amitoze Singh played a sedate innings of 112 runs that came in 214 balls

Amitoze got off to a flying start in the domestic season,slamming a century (112 runs) to propel Patiala to 262 runs for the loss of six wickets in 90 overs in their first innings against Jalandhar on the opening day of the Punjab Inter-District Cricket Tournament match being played for Katoch Shield at Patiala.

Batting in the middle-order,Amitoze Singh played a sedate innings of 112 runs that came in 214 balls. Amitoze came in at number four to join Kunwar Raina when Patiala were reeling at 2 for 9 with Ravi Inder Singh and Varun Khullar back to the pavilion. Kunwar and Amitoze took the total to 82 before Taruwar removed Kunwar. Next to go was Himanshu Chawla. Patiala were 82 for 4 at this stage. Thereafter,Amitoze and Anmolpreet put on 144 runs for the sixth wicket. At the close of play, Anmolpreet was unbeaten on 80 runs with and Mohit Mahindera unbeaten on 16).

Mohali bowlers dominate

In the second match played at the PCA Stadium,with the combined efforts from Barinder Saran (4 for 43),Manpreet Gony (3 for 44) and Varun Khanna (3 for 53),Amritsar team was bowled out for 200 runs in 66.1 overs in their first innings against Mohali. Karan Sharma (44) Aman Bawa (40) and Vinay Chaudhary (31) were the main contributors for Amritsar. Pacers Gony and Sran wrecked Amritsar and did not allow their batsmen to settle. Left-arm spinner Varun Khanna complimented the Mohali pace attack scalping three wickets for 53 runs. In reply,Mohali made a sound start with openers Sunny Sohal and Ankit Pursharthy putting on an unbeaten opening partnership of 68 runs in 21 overs. At close of first days play,Sunny Sohal was batting on 48 with Ankit Pursharthy batting on 17.

Chandigarh in good position

Riding high on knocks from Gurkirat Walia (82) and Amit Prashar (73 no),Chandigarh made 286 runs for the loss of four wickets in 90 overs in their first innings during a match played against Ludhiana. Openers Manan Vohra and Jaskaran Sohi scored 33 runs for the first wicket. After Manan perished, skipper Vishwas Bhalla joined Jaskaran Sohi and the duo put on 40 runs for the second wicket. At one stage,Chandigarh were 75 for 3 in 25.1 overs. Skipper Vishwas Bhalla retired hurt in the 50th over after scoring 40 runs. The duo of Amit Prashar and Gurkirat Walia started the repair act and took the total to 258 when Gurkirat was caught by Davinder off Baltez for 82 runs. Amit Prashar plundered unbeaten knock of 73 runs. At the close of play,Chandigarh’s total was 286 for 4 in 90 overs.
