Akashdeep,Rohit steer Ropar to safety

A valiant century by Akashdeep and an unbeaten half-century by Rohit Sharma helped Ropar to eke out a draw against Mohali on the last day of the match in the ML Markan trophy for U-16 played at GMSS-Sector 26 on Friday.

A valiant century by Akashdeep (108) and an unbeaten half-century by Rohit Sharma (61) helped Ropar to eke out a draw against Mohali on the last day of the match in the ML Markan trophy for U-16 played at GMSS-Sector 26 on Friday.

Resuming their first innings at 105 for 6 in 50 overs,Ropar needed a miracle to save the match. And the Ropar batsman handled the pressure well to manage the draw. Akashdeep and Naveen were associated in a 90-run stand for the seventh wicket before Naveen departed after playing a knock of 43 runs. At this time,Ropar score board read 199 for 7. Akahsdeep was then joined by Rohit Sharma and the duo took the Ropar score to 282 runs. Akashdeep departed after playing a knock of 108 runs off 347 balls. During his stay at the crease,Akashdeep smashed 14 boundaries and one towering six. With nine wickets down at the score of 282 runs,Ropar were staring down at handing Mohali a first innings’ lead but Rohit Sharma and Paras Bhatia had other things in mind. The duo batted for 20 overs and denied Mohali the first innings’ lead. Rohit Sharma played an unbeaten knock of 61 runs off 184 balls. Sharma smashed eight boundaries during his knock. He was ably supported by Paras Bhatia who remained unbeaten on 14 runs. For Mohali,Taranpreet Singh claimed four wickets for 85 runs and Ashish Bisht claimed two wickets for 34 runs.

Pandove helps Patiala win

A six-wicket haul by off-spinner Akul Pandove in the second innings guided Patiala to an innings and 64-run win over Jalandhar in another match of the tournament. Jalandhar,who were trailing by 144 runs after their first innings,lost their first wicket at a score of 27 runs in their second innings. Thereafter Akul Pandove claimed regular wickets to restrict Jalandhar batsman.

A Verma was the top scorer for the J31 as Jalandhar team as he played a knock of 33 runs. Pandove claimed six wickets for 31 runs as Jalandhar were bowled out for a total of 80 runs handing the Patiala team a win by first innings and 64 runs. With this win,Patiala gathered seven points including a bonus point. In the third match played at Ludhiana,Chandigarh scored a win on the basis of the first innings lead. Play was stopped due to wet outfield on Friday and Chandigarh got three points on the basis of the first innings lead.

DAV School,Amritsar win

Chandigarh : DAV Senior Secondary School,Amritsar scored a six-wicket win over Don Bosco Matriculation Higher Secondary School,Tamil Nadu in a match of the U-16 Inter-State leg of the Coca Cola Cricket Cup being played in Delhi. Batting first, Don Bosco Matriculation Higher Secondary School posted a total of 154 runs in 37.3 overs.

P Krishna top scored with 32 runs. For the DAV Senior Secondary School,Amritsar team,Piyush Sharma was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed four wickets for 32 runs. Navneet Singh claimed three wickets for 17 runs. In reply, DAV Senior Secondary School,Amritsar reached the target for the loss of four wickets in 31.5 overs. Abhishek Kumar remained unbeaten on 52 runs while Karan Sharma played a fluent knock of 50 runs.
