With student council elections in Panjab University (PU) just a fortnight away,the universitys security wing strengthened measures and held a meeting with Chandigarh police on Friday to assess the present security arrangements and preparations for the forthcoming elections.
The university Chief Security Officer,Professor Anil Monga,Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ashish Kapoor,Inspector Gurumukh Singh,Station Head Officer,Sector 11 police station and other officers of Chandigarh police and PU Security Wing were present at the meeting.
Discussing security issues,Professor Monga asked PU security personnel to be vigilant against the presence of anti-social elements on the campus,while mentioning that entry of outsiders in the university will be strictly banned in both the north and south campus.
Also,Professor Monga appreciated the police checking for outsiders in University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) on Thursday,which led to around 10 youth being detained for identification. He also added students organisations would not be allowed to take out processions or motorcades.
DSP Kapoor offered support to the university for the elections to be conducted smoothly and for maintenance of law and order in the campus.
He said the local unit of Chandigarh police had been instructed to maintain close liaison with the varsitys security wing.
