Agitating Punjab farmers find slab removed on Haryana border, raise safety concerns

(File Image) The agitating farmers sitting on Punjab’s Shambhu border have said that they noticed security forces in Haryana removing a cement slab from a seven-layered blockade on Tuesday, raising apprehensions of their safety.
Highly-placed sources of Punjab Police also confirmed that one 4-feet wide slab, erected on National Highway-44 to stop the farmers from entering Haryana, has been removed. The development comes hours after farm leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal was shifted to hospital ahead of his fast-unto-death protest that was to begin on the Khanauri border on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the farmers’ protest.
The farmers who had set out for New Delhi in February in continuation of the 2020 Delhi farmers’ protest have been sitting at the Shambhu toll barrier for the past nine months after they were prevented entry to Haryana. They have been demanding Minimum Support Price (MSP) for all their crops as a legal guarantee implemented, among 13 other demands.
