Preparations for Maati ke Rang,the silver jubilee celebrations of the Zonal Cultural Centres received a setback storms lashed Tricity on Wednesday night.

The set that was installed over a period of the past few days was damaged. Around 10 artists received minor injuries.

Repair work was started early on Thursday morning and continued at breakneck speed.

One of the artistes said,“We are ready,but I am shocked that they have no arrangements for dealing with bad weather. What will they do if a similar incident occurs tomorrow? All our practice will go down the drain.”

As many as 5 SPs,25 DSPs from the Haryana Police in addition to Commando Platoons,SPG Teams and Mounted Platoons from the Haryana Armed Police have been deployed. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chief Sonia Gandhi will be at the event.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Maneesh Chaudhary stated that all necessary actions were being taken to ensure for the the PM and his delegation’s safety. “The police is ready with snipers and night vision goggles,” he said adding that there will be barricades around Sector 5 as extra security precautions.
