After Israel,Mayor all set for France trip

The talks with the committees in France have been going on for the past few months.

After his recent visit to Israel,Mayor Subhash Chawla,along with some councillors and officials,is all set to visit France to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the French municipal committees for cooperation in several areas. The French would provide expertise to Chandigarh in housing,pollution control and water management,among other things.

The MoU would be signed between the group of municipal committees in France,Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (MC) and the Administration. The talks with the committees in France have been going on for the past few months. French representatives have already visited Chandigarh and modalities are being worked out.

The Mayor would now be visiting France with five councillors from different parties and officials. The selection of the councillors would be done by the Mayor. As per the agreement between the French and Chandigarh officials,the expenditure for travelling would be borne by the guests,while the host country would pay for the boarding and lodging. The creator of the city Le Corbusier was a Swiss-born French architect.

Chawla says it would be a three or four days visit and would be planned with officials of the Administration. “Representatives from France have already visited us. We have worked on the areas where we would provide expertise to the French and vice-versa. The municipal committees of France would help us in areas like water management and housing,” he said.

The Mayor has just returned from a visit to Israel where he had gone with the MC commissioner and an executive engineer. The visit was to study methods of water management as well as introduction to new technologies.
