Three months after he had appealed for a CBI probe into the mysterious death of Fiza alias Anuradha Bali, the Mohali Police has asked Salim Alvi,a close aide of Fiza,to get his statement recorded with the police. Alvi has been asked by the police to submit evidence to corroborate his apprehensions that Fiza was murdered.

Alvi,a resident of Bulandshahr, has been summoned by the Mohali police. “I received a call from a senior police official on Wednesday asking me to get my statement recorded,” Alvi said.

Alvi had been repeatedly saying that fearing a threat from Member of Parliament Kuldeep Bishnoi,Fiza, the estranged wife of former deputy chief minister Chander Mohan, had plans to submit a memorandum to the President. She had also reportedly planned to give a copy of the memorandum to the Prime Minister and Congress high command,Alvi said this in a written statement to the Mohali police in November 2012. He had submitted that his two-page letter be considered his written statement.

Fiza was to meet Alvi on August 9,2012,but three days before the meeting, her body was recovered from her residence in Sector 48.

Ruling out the possibility of a suicide,Alvi had written that Fiza was an “educated” woman and was “too brave” to take such a cowardly decision. Had she committed suicide, she would have left a suicide note.

Suspecting it to be a murder,Alvi had urged the Mohali police to carry out a fair and independent investigation, and nail those responsible for Fiza’s mysterious death.

Alvi had also written a letter to the Mohali SSP seeking an independent probe into the case. He had narrated facts as told to him by Fiza before her death. Fiza,as per Alvi, had a telephonic conversation with him on July 29,when she reiterated her apprehensions.

She had also approached a city lawyer to file a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking police protection. “I had suggested Fiza madam to come to Bulandshahr, and write to the President and Prime Minister. She had repeatedly mentioned about Bishnoi. I am not pointing a finger at any individual, but have only narrated what Fiza shared with me. All I want is an independent probe without any political pressure,” Alvi said.

He had also claimed that he had been receiving “strange” calls ever since he named a Lok Sabha MP. Days after Fiza’s body was recovered,Alvi had claimed that she had named an MP and alleged that she had received threatening calls from the MP and his party workers.

Fiza’s autopsy report had suggested that she had died of poisoning.
