The UT Administration has sent a letter to the Chandigarh traffic police asking it to issue challans to violators whose vehicles do not carry High Security Registration Plates (HSRP). The Chandigarh police has said it would start the process once it receives a copy of the letter.
Challans, issued under the offence of number plate not according to pattern, would incur a fine of Rs 2,000 for two-wheelers and Rs 3,000 for four-wheelers and be issued for vehicles with registration number of the series CH01AQ,CH01AR,CH01AS,CH01AT and CH01AU.
We have sent a letter to the Chandigarh Traffic police directing that challans should be issued to violators. We have given ample time to citizens for affixing HSRP, said Bhavna Garg,Secretary Transport. The traffic police, however, has not received a copy yet. We are waiting for a copy of the letter. We would start issuing challans as soon as we receive one, said Maneesh Chaudhry,SSP (Security and Traffic).
Earlier,a delay was observed in initiating the process after the Registration and Licensing Authority asked the traffic police to start issuing challans by sending them notices thrice. However, the Chandigarh police refused to do so saying there was no section in the Motor Vehicle Act to allow them to do so.
