Admn to provide free medical aid to freedom fighters

UT Administrator Gen (Retd) S F Rodrigues on Monday approved the proposal to extend free medical treatment facilities to all freedom fighters residing in Chandigarh in all the central and state hospitals in the UT.

UT Administrator Gen (Retd) S F Rodrigues on Monday approved the proposal to extend free medical treatment facilities to all freedom fighters residing in Chandigarh in all the central and state hospitals in the UT.

The decision has been taken in pursuance to a direction issued by a Division Bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court,comprising Chief Justice Tirath Singh Thakur and Justice Surya Kant on September 22.

The directions were issued in the wake of a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Advocate H C Arora,where he had sought directions to the UT Administration to frame a scheme,within two months,for free treatment of freedom fighters in various UT hospitals.

The requisite notification is in the process of being issued by the UT Administration.

In another significant development,meanwhile,UT senior standing counsel Advocate Anupam Gupta asked Arora for an updated list of freedom fighters as Jean Rodrigues has expressed a desire to personally visit their families to express the nation’s gratitude for their sacrifices.
