The residents and shopkeepers of the city are shocked over the incident and feel unsafe. Given the present situation,it seems that such incidents can occur anywhere and the police fail to get even a single clue about the accused. This is nothing but a clear-cut case of failure on part of the police.

Though the law and order condition of the city needs to be improved,we cannot completely blame the police. Besides,it is also the responsibility of the general public to be more alert and conscious about such anti-social elements. The law and order condition of any area can improve to a great extent provided the public is alert and helps the police in maintaining proper law and order.

Lalit Gupta,president,Panchkula Bar Council

Wrong attitude is the reason behind the public losing faith in the police. The situation may get worse in the next few days if nothing is done about it soon.

The police needs to pull up their socks as there has been an increase in the number of criminal incidents in the city. I think that shortage of staff in the police department is also responsible for their inefficiency.

B B Singhal,vice-president,Panchkula Municipal Council

The lack of personnel is the reason behind the inefficiency. Take the example of the Sector-10 police post, where six officers are deployed. They have to look after a huge area, including Sectors 9,10,11,six markets,27 banks and 27 educational institutions. Under such situations, despite the willingness of the police officers to look after such a vast area,it is not humanly possible for them to do so. The Administration should improve the resources of the department if they want an effective police system.
