After the Centre’s decision to strip former Haryana DGP S P S Rathore of his medals, human rights activists in the city have demanded that the medal awarded to former Punjab DGP K P S Gill also be withdrawn.

Gill too was convicted by court on charges of molesting senior IAS officer Rupan Deol Bajaj.

President of the Chandigarh Unit of Lawyers For Human Rights International,T S Sudan, said: “The decision taken by the Central Police Awards Committee (CPAC) and the Home ministry is a belated one but a good step in a civilized society. We urge the government to withdraw the awards, including Padam Shri, given to K P S Gill immediately as he

was also convicted for a similar offence. Such a decision will set an example for others.”
