Even as the Chandigarh Police continues to drag the case involving abduction of a Nepali woman allegedly by a UT Police head constable,an eyewitness to the incident claims to have seen the 21-year-old woman being abducted by him.

It has been over a week since the husband of the woman filed a complaint with the Chandigarh Police, but for reasons best known to the police, even an FIR has not been registered till now. Kirti, the 21-year-old wife of Nand Lal Giri is still missing.

On August 25,head constable Bhoop Singh was accused of abducting the wife of a Nepal citizen, who has been living in the city for the past 7-8 years, working as a cook. Nandlal Giri, the complainant, had accused Singh of abducting his second wife,Kirti, whom he had married a month ago. Singh, however, had claimed to be falsely implicated.

Talking to Newsline, the eyewitness (name withheld) present at the spot said,“It was around 10.45 pm when I was called by the head constable to translate the language spoken by the Nepali girl to Singh since he could not communicate with her. Bhoop Singh told me to ask the woman a few questions in Nepali about her personal and educational background.” Earlier, while talking to Newsline,Singh had confirmed to have taken the help of a Nepali citizen for translation,as he did not understand the language spoken by the woman.

“After he got the answers,Singh told her husband that he needed to take her to the police station. When the husband demanded to accompany her,Singh denied permission and took her in his private car to an unknown destination. Since then, the woman has been missing,” the eyewitness added.

According to Giri,on August 25,he and Kirti were strolling in a park in Sector

8-B. Around 10 pm,Head Constable Bhoop Singh, deputed at a nearby police beat box, confronted the couple and started asking them questions. Even after Giri told Singh that they had been married recently, the constable asked Giri to go away, and took Kirti away in his private car bearing the registration number CH-38T-0902.

Singh had earlier rebutted the allegations saying,“I never took the complainant’s wife anywhere in my car. I let them off after questioning them. I have no idea as to why the woman has still not returned home.” However,Giri alleged that when he asked about the whereabouts of his wife,Singh had told him that he dropped Kirti in a three-wheeler for her home.
