Chandigarh:Riding high on Aakriti Sharma’s superlative knock of 86 runs,Chandigarh registered a massive 129-run win over Patiala in the last league group match of the ongoing Punjab Inter-District cricket tournament for women,at GNPS,Sector 36,Chandigarh. Moga has topped the group,with two wins in their pocket. Meanwhile from the other group,Jalandhar will take on Ludhiana on Tuesday. The result of that match will decide the topper of the group. Moga will take on the winner of that group in the tournament final. Batting first,Chandigarh posted a total of 217 runs in 49.5 overs. Aakriti emerged as the star,scoring 86 runs. From Patiala,off-spinner Anureet bowled well to scalp three wickets. In reply,Patiala were bowled out for 88 runs. Off-spinner Hema Mohan bagged four wickets for Chandigarh.

Sumer shocks top seed Yuvraj
Chandigarh:Sumer Sandhu,the favourite to win the boy’s Under-12 title,inched closer to victory when he ousted top seed Yuvraj Kooka 6-2 to enter the semi-finals of the YMCA Total tennis championship being held at YMCA Total Tennis Academy in Sector 11,on Monday. Despite being pitted against the top seed,Sumer hardly showed any nerves as he conceded just two games and ended up winning comfortably. He took an early lead of 3-2 and raced to victory by winning the next games. However,he was denied a chance to enter the semis of boy’s Under-14 by Manvir who outplayed him 6-0 in the quarter-finals. Meanwhile,in the quarter-finals of boy’s Under-12 category,Manvir Sohi was stretched by Sehaj Sidhu but managed to beat him 6-4 (7-4) in the tie-breaker. Manvir was staring down the barrel at 2-4 but won next two games to level the score 4-4. Both the players went neck to neck till the 12th game and it was in the tie-breaker that Manvir showed his remarkable skills and won the thrilling match. In the Under-10 final,Asav Kumar outclassed Udayveer Singh 4-0,4-1,to claim the title. Manjot Singh will take on Nikhil in boy’s Under-16 final while Naemat Aulakh will face Preet Nain for the girl’s Under-16 title.
