8-year-old local boy among three killed in separate accidents

In the first incident,a man was crushed to death after an unidentified vehicle hit his motorcycle at the Zirakpur flyover.

Three people,including an eight-year-old boy,were killed in three accidents reported from Chandigarh and Zirakpur on Saturday.

The impact of the collision was so strong that the 35-year-old victim’s body was split into two parts and his two-wheeler was mangled completely. According to the passer-by who spotted the victim’s body,he was wearing a helmet and was going towards Ambala when he was hit by a speeding vehicle from behind.

The deceased was identified as Suman Dhang,a resident of Savitri Enclave in Zirakpur and originally from Kolkata. He worked as a goldsmith in Zirakpur and was returning home from work at the time of the incident,said the police.

The victim reportedly had a three-day-old son.

The body was sent to the Civil Hospital at Derabassi.

A case of death by negligence and rash driving was registered against the unidentified driver,who fled the spot. A broken number plate recovered from the spot suggested that the accused belonged to Mohali district.

In the second incident,an eight-year-old boy who was hit by an unidentified vehicle on Saturday succumbed to injuries at night. The deceased was identified as Abhishek,a resident of Hallomajra.

According to the police,Abhishek was walking on the roadside near Hallomajra Chowk when he was hit by a vehicle at 2.20 pm on Saturday. He suffered severe injuries to his face and other body parts. A woman who was passing by rushed the victim to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32 where he succumbed to his injuries at night. Another passer-by informed a constable who was present near the spot but the registration number of the vehicle of the accused was not noted down.

Abhishek’s family members were informed of the incident in the evening,said the police. Abhishek is survived by his parents and seven siblings.

A case of rash driving,endangering lives and death by negligence was registered at the Sector 31 Police Station against the unidentified driver under sections 279,337 and 304A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

In another tragic accident,a 30-year-old woman died after her cycle was hit by a car near the Sector 10-Sector 2 junction around 8.30 on Saturday night. The deceased was identified as Bhawna Devi,a housewife residing in Sector 10.

According to the police,Devi suffered serious injuries to her head and other parts,and was rushed to PGI by the driver who hit her. She succumbed to her injuries an hour after the incident,and is survived by a husband,a son and a daughter.

The driver was identified as Auran Hunja,a resident of Zirakpur,who was booked and arrested by the police for rash driving and death by negligence under relevant sections of the IPC. However,later,he was released on bail.
