As many as seven professionals from different fields were honoured by the First Friday Forum at a function held at Chandigarh College of Architecture (CCA) today. The First Friday Forum Awards for Creative Excellence (FFFACE) were given for outstanding work in their respective fields.
The founder of the forum Dr S S Bhatti,former CCA principal conferred the awards on Dr Sharda Kaushik,Director Regional Institute of English; Dr V K Kak,professor emeritus,PGIMER; Pradeep Sharma,principal correspondent,The Tribune; Jintendra Mohan,professor emeritus Panjab University; Colonel (retired) Tilak Raj,former chief post master general,Punjab Circle; H C Arora,RTI activist and Harpreet Singh,head architect office,Panjab University. Dr Sharda Kaushik received the award for her contribution to the architectonics of teaching English,Dr Kak for raising the status of neurosurgery,Pradeep Sharma for upholding ethics in journalism,Prof Jitendra Mohan for varied achievements in Applied Psychology. Others including Col Tilak Raj was conferred the honour for injecting poetry into postal services to create public awareness,H C Arora for unrelenting crusade to restore morality in public life and Harpreet Singh received the award in recognition of his contribution to the CCA campus.
There was a symposium on Geography,Architecture and Planning that was also organised during the annual oration of First Friday Forum.
Dr S S Bhatti pointed out that some the problems of the modern world like depletion of natural resources,thinning of forest cover,are attributable to one factor,neglect of geography. To bridge the gap among the three primary disciplines (geography,architecture and planning),he pleaded for integrated education in professional courses.
