7 child labourers rescued from shops in Burail

The Chandigarh Police rescued seven minor boys from child employment in six dhabas and a meat shop in Burail on Monday.

The Chandigarh Police rescued seven minor boys from child employment in six dhabas and a meat shop in Burail on Monday.

The shops were raided by the police in the presence of officials from the Department of Labour and Child Welfare. “We received secret information about child labourers and raided the shops in the presence of child counsellors from the Child Welfare Department. The children,aged between 8 and 14,were rescued from employment in various dhabas and a meat shop in Burail,” said a police officer.

The boys belong to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar and were staying in Chandigarh with either a parent or a relative in various colonies,including Colony Number 5. Two of them did not have any acquaintance in the city and slept in the dhabas where they worked in the day.

The boys have been kept at children’s home Snehalaya.

According to police,no case has been registered as the parents in most cases were aware of their children’s employment.
