The UT Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested seven persons in three separate incidents of snatching.
In the first incident,a native of Sirmour,Sangharsh Thakur,was walking towards Manimajra on Tuesday night when he was robbed of his belongings by five boys.
On reaching Madhya Marg,Sector 28,a boy hiding behind a tree asked him where he was going. In the meantime,five boys,one of whom put a knife on Thakurs neck,snatched his mobile phone,Rs 900 and an ATM card. The accused fled after thrashing him.
The victim approached a PCR vehicle parked at Transport Light Point,and narrated the incident. Acting swiftly,the PCR personnel made him sit in the Gypsy and started looking for the accused in the area. One accused identified as Harsh Vardhan,a resident of Bapu Dham Colony (BDC),Sector 26,was nabbed while he was sitting near a roundabout.
Based on his disclosure,Mohmaddad Afzal,Amit Kumar,Mushtaq Ali and Dharamjit alias Monu,all residents of BDC,Sector 26,were also arrested. The stolen property has been recovered and a case registered.
According to DSP J S Khaira,all the accused are aged between 25 and 30,and are drug addicts.
In a separate incident,Vikram Pawar alias Vicky was arrested while attempting to rob two persons. On Tuesday night,Vicky and his accomplice tried to rob Jai Parkash and Avidhesh Shukla,two juice vendors in Sector 19. The incident happened near the dividing road of Sector 19 and Sector 27 about 11 pm. However,Vicky was caught by police constables patrolling the area. Later,it was found that Vicky has three cases of snatching registered against him at various police stations.
In another incident,Satish Kumar,a resident of Khuda Ali Sher,reported that an unidentified pedestrian snatched his mobile phone near OPD gate,PGIMER,on Wednesday. Later,accused Bittu,26,a resident of Naygaon,was arrested and a case was registered against him at Sector 11 police station.
