A day after the International Day of Girl Child,another incident of female foeticide has come to light here with the discovery of a six-month-old foetus under a bridge in Panchkula on Saturday.
Packed inside a cardboard box,the foetus was discovered under a bridge near village Bhanu,in the outskirts of Panchkula city by some villagers in the afternoon who informed the police. A case has been registered for concealment of birth by secret disposal of body under Section 318 of the Indian Penal Code at the Chandimandir police station.
The police shifted the foetus to the General Hospital,Sector 6,to conduct a post-mortem after which the last rituals were performed. The foetus is expected to be disposed off under the bridge on Friday night. The foetus,that of a six-month-old girl,must have been dumped some 24 hours before we found it. While we await the post mortem report a case has been registered and the investigation is on, said a police officer.
In a similar incident,a six-month-old female foetus was found dumped in the womens toilet at Sector 6 General Hospital on Friday morning.
A sweeper at the hospital had discovered the foetus on the toilet seat and informed the senior doctors of the hospital. A case has been registered under Section 318 of IPC at the Sector 5 Police Station.
We will go through the CCTV footage of the hospital and also through its admission records, said Station House Officer Mukesh Kumar.
