Over 48 makeshift huts were reduced to ashes when a fire that broke out at Malkumajra village near Baddi today.
Preliminary investigations made by the police revealed that the fire broke out in the forenoon when most of the migrant labourers had left the site. The huts made of plastic sheets were completely destroyed in the fire that was fanned by winds and engulfed all the huts within an hour. It took over one hour for the firemen from Baddi to extinguish the fire completely. Household goods worth thousands of rupees was gutted in the fire. No loss of life or injury has been reported in the fire accident.
Surprisingly,none of the government officials visited the site or announced any immediate relief to the fire victims. However,the villagers of the area have arranged for food and shelter for the affected families. The cause of the fire could not be ascertained immediately.
