4 booked for harassing woman after she objected to tent near her house

While 107 cases of molestation and obscene acts were registered by the city police last year,the figure has already reached more than 164 so far this year.

The Chandigarh Police on Saturday booked four persons for allegedly molesting a 22-year-old woman at Dhanas on October 30.

The accused have been identified as Cheenu,Happy,Babbi and Pardeep and a case of wrongful restraint and molestation has been registered against them. All the four are absconding.

According to the police,the victim,a resident of Dhanas,got into a quarrel with the accused,who were her neighbours,over the setting up of a tent near her house on the night of October 30. The accused were putting up a tent for Diwali celebrations. When the victim objected,they allegedly restrained her and started molesting her.

After the incident,the victim,who is unmarried and stays with her mother,decided not to take any action because her mother had gone away to her native place,according to the police. Once her mother returned,the duo lodged a complaint at the Dhanas Police Post on Saturday. Following this,a case of molestation was registered at the Police Station in Sector 11 under sections 341 and 354 of the Indian Penal Code.
