32-yr-old woman ends life,father alleges murder

A 32-year-old computer teacher has allegedly committed suicide at her Sector 21 residence.

A 32-year-old computer teacher has allegedly committed suicide at her Sector 21 residence.

Monika Goel,a teacher with the New India Public School,Sector 18,Chandigarh was found hanging by her husband. The Chandigarh police have booked Vikas Goel,her husband and Prem Lata and JP Goel,her in-laws,on charges of abetment of suicide.

An FIR has been registered against the three on a complaint made by Bhagwan Das,father of the deceased.

The father has alleged that Monika’s in-laws were forcing her to divorce her husband Vikas. When refused,her in laws ‘murdered’ her,alleged Bhagwan Das.

Significantly,Monika’s 7-year-old son,who was weeping profusely in school also alleged that his mother has been murdered. However,the police maintained that no evidence has been collected which could substantiate the charge. No suicide note has been recovered from the crime scene.

The three people arrested will be produced in front of the local court on Tuesday. The actual cause of death is to be ascertained.

The incident took place at 8 am,Monday when the father of the deceased,Bhagwan Das,a resident of Sector 15,Chandigarh received a call from a friend that his daughter is not well and is being taken by her in-laws to the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital,Sector 16 (GMSH-16). However,till 8.30 am,there was no sign of anyone and no one from Monika’s in-laws received calls. Later,she was declared brought dead by the GMSH-16 doctors.

According to the mother-in-law,Prem Lata,Monika did not open the door of her room till 7.45 am. After becoming suspicious,her husband,Vikas Goel knocked at the door. When she did not respond,he forced opened the door and found Monika hanging.

Bhagwan Das said that there had been some trouble in the marriage. “The previous day as well,there had been some problem in the family as when I went to meet Monika,her mother-in-law did not make her meet me. Also,when I called her in the evening,she reused to talk,” he said.

He also added,“In December 2011,we had filed a DDR at the Sector 19 police station,when my daughter was beaten by her in-laws. After that moment,she was being forced by her in-laws to take a divorce”.

Bhagwan Das also added that two months after Monika and Vikas’s marriage in 2002,they had been having troubles. One of the neighbors of Bhagwan Das also said that they were to move the Woman’s Protection Cell on Monday,however,they got the news of her demise.
