The stray dog menace came to haunt the Municipal Corporation (MC),with former Mayor and sitting councillor Harjinder Kaur attacked and bitten by stray dogs. The incident occurred on Wednesday night when she came out of the gurdwara in Sector 34 with prasad in her hand. Three stray dogs attacked her. While one tried to get hold of the prasad, another bit her in the thigh.
Kaur took a rickshaw home and was taken to GMSH-16 by her husband Prof Manmohan Singh. He said that she was treated by the doctors but as soon as they were getting out of the hospital, she fainted. This morning she was taken to the dispensary in Sector 19 that deals with dog bite cases where she was administered injections.
When Kaur went to the Municipal Corporation to attend the meeting of the Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC),she raised the issue and pointed out that dog by-laws should be properly implemented. Around a month ago,her son too had been bitten by a pet dog. A discussion was held at F&CC on the need for an awareness drive on giving first aid in case of dog bites.
Prof Manmohan Singh said that he would approach the consumer court to file a case against the MC. The dog by-laws have been notified but the implementation is poor, he noted. Harjinder was in a state of shock after the dogs attacked her. I will file a case with the consumer court.
