Three armed robbers stabbed Balwinder Kaur (55) four times before escaping with gold jewellery worth lakhs of rupees from her house at Ramdarbar today. Her 23-year-old daughter-in-law Harpal Kaur escaped unharmed after she told them that she was pregnant.
According to the police,the incident took place at around 1 pm on Monday when Balwinder Kaur,her husband Vidhi Singh and Harpal Kaur were in their house. Chanranjit Kaur and her seven-year-old son Bittoo too had come to visit the family.
While Harpal was busy in the kitchen,three armed youths with their faces covered with handkerchiefs entered the kitchen from the back door of the house. The accused placed a knife on Harpals neck and told her to hand over all her jewellery to them without raising a noise.
A terrified Harpal quietly handed over her belongings. The assailants were going to stab her but were restrained from from doing so when she told them that she was pregnant. However,the accused still manhandled and pushed her.
The accused then reportedly moved to adjoining rooms of the house where other family members were present. Balwinder was also told to remove her jewellery. But while doing so she started screaming.
The accused stabbed Balwinder four times in the chest and fled from the house with the loot. They also bolted the house from outside. Hearing the familys cries,the neighbours reached the house and took Balwinder to GMCH-32 where her condition is serious, said Investigating Officer (IO) SI Raghubir Singh.
Neighbours said that they had seen two boys doing a recce of the house for the past few days. Meanwhile,a case of attempt of murder,furtherance of common intention and robbery has been registered at the Sector 31 police station.
