Three motorcycle-borne men robbed a woman of Rs 1.15 lakh and her Activa scooter on the road dividing Sectors 37 and 38 when she was on her way to deposit money in a bank on Friday afternoon.
Mansi alias Shushma, a resident of Mata Gujri Enclave in Kharar, is a dealer of Verka products while her husband runs a Verka outlet in Sector 41.
Every day, she goes to the branch of Axis Bank in Sector 38 to deposit cash, said Inspector Gurmukh Singh, SHO of the Sector 39 police station. Obviously, the robbers knew her routine and had been following her.
Riding a motorcycle with their faces covered, they stopped the woman, assaulted her, pushed her away and drove away with her Activa which had the cash lying in the dickey.
Mansi raised the alarm and some passerby called the police control room. Later, her scooter was found abandoned near gate number 3 of the Panjab University campus, minus the cash. “Her mobile phone and other belongings were there in the dickey,” said the SHO.
The police are not ruling out the possibility that someone known to Mansi was involved in the crime. A case of robbery has been registered.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (South) Urvija Goel said, “No one has been identified yet. The complainant did not name any suspects, but we are questioning some people.”
