23-yr-old on captured ship,father meets Himachal CM for help

Unable to secure the release of his son,Prashant Chauhan,23,who is among the six Indians captured and held hostage by Somali pirates,Amar Singh Chauhan met Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal on Thursday and asked for his help to ensure safe return of his son.

Ganesh Dutt,vice-chairman of the Himachal Urban Development Authority (HIMUDA) who accompanied Chauhan,said Dhumal assured him of intensifying the efforts and taking up the matter at the highest level in the Government of India.

This is the second time when Prashant’s family met Dhumal,who had earlier spoken to Union Minister for Shipping G K Vasan on this. BJP MP Anurag Thakur has also taken up the matter with the Union Ministry of External Affairs for safe release of the captured Indians.

Among other Indians on the hijacked ship are Satnam Singh of Ambala and M K Sharma of Jammu and Kashmir.

Prashant,who studied in Dayanand Public School,Shimla,had joined the Egyptian merchant ship as the chief chef less than a year before it was captured. He had done his hotel management course from an institute in Bhopal.

Amar Singh Chauhan and his wife Puspha had also met External Affairs Minister S M Krishna in New Delhi two months ago.
