2007 double suicide: 8 years on, Jalandhar bizman held in Jalandhar

The suspect was picked up on Wednesday. He is among seven people booked in connection with the suicides of financier Vinod Syal and his wife Kusum Syal.

Following directives of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the Hoshiarpur police have arrested a Jalandhar-based petrol pump owner Deepak Kesar in connection with an eight-year-old case wherein a financier couple of the city committed suicide.

The suspect was picked up on Wednesday. He is among seven people booked in connection with the suicides of financier Vinod Syal and his wife Kusum Syal. The Syals, who ran four finance companies, committed suicide on June 26, 2007. The couple said they had been under pressure by the suspects to repay the money they had invested. An FIR was registered at Hoshiarpur Sadar Police Station.

The six other suspects are still at large. The other suspects in the case are Rajan Kesar, Pramod Syal (brother of late Vinod Syal), Manju Syal (wife of Pramod), Shashi Syal, Sumit Syal and Vikas Nayyar. Shashi Syal is the wife of Ashok Syal, another brother of Vinod Syal and Sumit Syal is the son of late Ashok Sayal and Shashi Syal. Vikas Nayyar is also related to the family, police said.
