2 youths held with stolen car
The local police arrested two youths,Mandeep Singh alias Monu and Pardeep Kumar,on Friday night with a Maruti Zen car,stolen from Chandigarh.
The local police arrested two youths,Mandeep Singh alias Monu and Pardeep Kumar,on Friday night with a Maruti Zen car,stolen from Chandigarh.
The youths,in their early 20s,were neighbours in Bank Colony in Ward 11,Kurali. Sub-Inspector Anil Kumar,after receiving a tip-off,set up a check post near Behlolpur village and stopped a car coming from Chandigarh.
Sensing trouble,the occupants of the car tried to flee,leaving behind the car but the police managed to overpower them.
The accused confessed to stealing the car from Chandigarh a few days ago. They also admitted to stealing two more cars which are yet to be recovered.
A local court remanded them to two-day police custody on Saturday.
Preliminary police investigations have hinted at involvement of the youths in the gang of car lifters active in the area. A case under Sections 379,411,420 and 473 of the IPC has been registered against the two.
