A truck driver and his associate sustained injuries after a village sarpanch’s son and his accomplices opened fire and thrashed them with batons,rods and rifle butts near Kurali.

The canter truck loaded with wood was driven by Balkar Singh,who was unable to allow a car to overtake him for a while on a village link road at Dosarana village. Balkar reported to the police that when he reached Dosarana village,a Maruti Alto car driver started honking continuously to overtake.

It took Balkar some time to make way on the narrow road.

The car,driven by Kulwinder Singh,son of Nagglian village sarpanch intercepted his truck after overtaking.

Investigating Officer (IO) Amar Nath said Balkar Singh and Karnail Singh,both in their mid-20s,of Balachaur in Nawanshahr were admitted to Civil Hospital.

Balkar Singh said,“He pulled out a rifle and fired few shots towards me and my associate Karnail Singh before calling his accomplices,who were also equipped with rifle and other deadly weapons,with which they assaulted us badly,” while adding that they somehow managed to escape bullet injuries.

The police have arrested Kulwinder Singh and recovered a .22 mm rifle.

His accomplices were still on the run with other weapons used in the crime,revealed the Investigating Officer.

The investigating officer added that a case of attempt to murder,causing damage,injuries and rioting under Sections 307,427,341,148 and 149 of the Indian Penal Code was lodged against the accused. Kulwinder was remanded to a two-day police custody.
