The Chandigarh Police on Saturday claimed to have solved 13 cases of snatching and auto theft with the arrest of two youths. The accused have been identified as Aashu (24) and Jitender Singh (27),both residents of Gobindpura,Mani Majra. The two were arrested from near HDFC bank in Gobindpura while they were riding on a motorcycle with a fake number plate.
It was found that Jitender was already involved in five cases of snatching and auto theft and has been imprisoned earlier. He has been active in such crimes along with his accomplice Aashu for the past two-three months in UT as well as Panchkula,police said.
The accused also disclosed that they used to park stolen vehicles in abandoned parking lots after driving them for a few days. The police claimed to have recovered five motorcycles,four scooters and four gold chains from their possession. Out of these,cases of three stolen motorcycles,three stolen scooters and one snatched gold chain belong to UT jurisdiction while the rest come under Panchkula area. A case of theft,possessing counterfeit seal with intent to commit forgery and of dishonestly receiving stolen property under the IPC has been registered against the accused at Mani Majra police station.
