2 brothers and the birth of Pyramid Lounge

Brothers Sunveer Sondhi and his sibling Sumeer Sondhi made a conscious decision to chart a new course, diverging from their family's liquor trade. Their inspiration stemmed from the vibrant clubbing scene they encountered during their experiences in China.

The genesis of the renowned Pyramid lounge and bar chain traces back to Chandigarh’s Elante, where an extraordinary entrepreneurial journey commenced.

Brothers Sunveer Sondhi and his sibling Sumeer Sondhi made a conscious decision to chart a new course, diverging from their family’s liquor trade. Their inspiration stemmed from the vibrant clubbing scene they encountered during their experiences in China.

Recognizing Chandigarh’s allure as the ‘City Beautiful,’ they set up the inaugural outlet at Elante in 2018. This modest beginning has since burgeoned into an empire encompassing 45 “Pyramids” scattered across seven states. Read more about this success story

Origin and transformation of the Idea into Pyramid

When I returned from China with this idea, my father, who worked in the liquor industry, responded positively. My brother, who could have pursued opportunities abroad, chose to assist in establishing Pyramid.

The concept of the ‘Pyramid Cafe Lounge and Bar’ evolved from my experiences in China. Our inaugural outlet at Elante kick-started with 30-40 employees. With hard work and dedication, we’ve expanded to a family of 1000 employees.

Chandigarh was our chosen launchpad to reshape perceptions of the liquor industry. We inaugurated the first Pyramid outlet in Elante, introducing innovative concepts like the ATM bar at VR Mall, leading to our substantial revenue of 100 crores.

Reach and vision for the future

Starting from Chandigarh, Pyramid has grown to encompass 45 outlets across seven states. The brand’s popularity has spurred franchise requests not just nationally but also internationally.

Education, talent, and retaining Chandigarh’s youth

My brother and I were average students at DAV College. Education indeed shapes individuals, but it shouldn’t confine one’s aspirations. Talents should be explored and embraced beyond academic grades.

I’m concerned about Chandigarh losing its talented youth. Initiating an annual startup event could foster innovation and provide opportunities for budding entrepreneurs. Financial incentives like low-interest loans and affordable utility bills could encourage aspiring business minds.

Personal pursuits and advice for entrepreneurs

Amidst the busy life of a restaurateur and entrepreneur, I cherish visiting different restaurants, reading books on business strategies, and spending quality time with family.

For aspiring entrepreneurs, I urge resilience in the face of challenges. Building a supportive network and seeking guidance when needed are essential.

Chandigarh – Admiration and aspirations

I admire Chandigarh for its well-planned infrastructure and greenery, creating a serene and organized environment unlike any other city. Yet, I aspire to see a vibrant startup ecosystem fostering innovation and providing more opportunities for young entrepreneurs.
