18th CII fair kicks off at Parade Ground

Traders from India,Pakistan,Afghanistan,Thailand and USA are participating in the fair.

With seven halls hosting more than 200 exhibitors from different states,the 18th CII Chandigarh fair kicked off on Friday,at the Sector 17 Parade Ground.

KK Sharma,Adviser to UT Administrator inaugurated the four-day fair,organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry in association with National Small Industries Corporation. Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal visited the fair and appreciated CII for organising a fair that brings immense variety and top quality products from India and abroad.

Traders from India,Pakistan,Afghanistan,Thailand and USA are participating in the fair. The International Arcade with over 60 Pakistani stalls continued to be the major attraction among the visitors. This year,75 traders from Pakistan have participated in the fair. For the first time,they have been given Tricity visas. The previous years,they were only given Chandigarh visas.

Rana Arshad from Pakistan who has been attending the fair for many years now said,“It is for the first time that we were asked to report to the police headquarters in Sector 9.” This year,Connect Broadband service is also providing free wi-fi services.

Sharma said,“India-Pakistan trade relations would improve a lot with such fairs. From garments to home decor,from handicrafts to processed foods,from kitchen appliances to dry fruits,from consumer durables to swanky cars,this fair has all items.”

The fest has also set the stage for women entrepreneurs and NGOs as organisation like Association of Women Entrepreneurs and Career Women attended.
