Sixteen students of GMN Public School,Ambala Cantonment, sustained injuries, after their bus overturned on Shahpur flyover on Thursday morning.
The bus was on its way to the school, when it overturned after allegedly being hit by a vehicle, while overtaking it on the flyover. Eye witnesses said the driver lost control of the bus and it overturned. The bus then hit the railing of the bridge and rested against it,thus averting a major tragedy. School principal Kanika said that it was not her duty to keep a tab on the buses.
It is the responsibility of the management to look after the working of the buses, which ply without attendants, she added.
Students claimed that the driver was busy on his mobile phone at the time of the accident. The driver fled the spot without tending to the injured students. Police have registered a case against the driver.
