16 complaints addressed at Patil’s public hearing

In what seems to be an effort to revive the lost tradition of the once avidly awaited public hearing sessions of the UT Administrator,Administrator Shivraj Patil held a public hearing session after lunch despite his busy schedule in the morning on Monday.

He was,in fact,present at the UT Secretariat till a quarter to four,holding conference with the senior officials and other staffers even during lunch hours.

Out of the 20 applicants,16 complaints were disposed of by assuring the complainants of necessary action.

In the first complaint,SS Makhan,president of the Chandigarh Government Electrical Contractors’ Association,asked that renewal of the enlistment and licenses be taken up. To this,it was directed that the endorsement for their licences may be done at the earliest and the licenses may be returned at the earliest.

Kewal Krishnan,another complainant,brought up the issue of illegal occupancy of house. The Estate Officer intimated that as per records,a similar complaint was earlier made by him to the Adviser to the Administrator-cum-CVO,Chandigarh Administration,which was forwarded to his office for necessary action and that the action taken on the complaint had already been conveyed to the complainant.

In another complaint,Dr. Gurcharan Singh requested that the investigation related to the case registered by him may be sped up. He was assured that the investigation will be expedited.

There were also a number of requests related to making available jobs or accommodation either on compassionate grounds or on the basis of the physically handicapped quota or the widow quota.

Prominent amongst others who were present in the meeting included KK Sharma,Adviser to the Administrator,MP Singh,Principal Secretary to the Governor,Satya Gopal,Chairman of the Chandigarh Housing Board,Anil Kumar,Home Secretary PK Srivastava,Inspector General of Police DK Tiwari,Secretary,Medical Education,Brajindra Singh,Deputy Commissioner Prerna Puri,and other officials.
