The Chandigarh Police on Thursday registered two separate cases of molestation. While a 15-year-old girl was allegedly molested by a 21-year-old youth in the first case,a 38-year-old married woman was allegedly molested and beaten up by a bouncer at a function in the other case.
The 15-year-old girl had left for her school in Sector 56 to take exam on Tuesday. At 7.50 am,an unknown person riding a motorcycle allegedly started stalking her. As the girl reached the main gate of her school,he allegedly misbehaved with her. Upon this,the victim raised the alarm. Fearing of being caught,the accused fled.
Later,after receiving a tip-off,the Chandigarh Police arrested the accused on Wednesday evening. He was identified as Sunny,a college student. A case of assault with intent to disrobe a woman under the IPC and of sexual assault under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act was registered against the accused at Sector 39 police station.
In the second case,a 38-year-old woman,who along with her husband attended an event at Kala Gram,Mani Majra,was allegedly molested by a bouncer present there. The victim alleged she and her husband were thrashed by the unidentified bouncer over an altercation.
According to the police,on September 29,the bouncer and the victim had an argument after she accused him of misbehaving with her. Upon confrontation by the victims husband,the bouncer allegedly thrashed the couple.
A case of voluntarily causing hurt,assault with intent to disrobe and outrage the modesty of a woman and of criminal intimidation was registered at Mani Majra police station.
So far,the Chandigarh Police has registered 157 cases of molestation against women this year as compared to 107 cases under the same offence in 2012.
