Several southern and interior districts in Odisha received heavy rainfall on Wednesday as the severe cyclonic storm Michaung weakened into a well-marked low-pressure area.

The depression (remnant of cyclonic storm Michaung) over northeast Telangana and adjoining south Chhattisgarh-south interior, Odisha-Coastal Andhra Pradesh moved slowly north-north-eastwards during the past six hours and weakened into a well-marked low-pressure area over the same region, said a bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The system is likely to continue to move nearly north-north-eastwards and weaken further into a low-pressure area during the next 12 hours, said the IMD bulletin.

Under its influence, several districts of Odisha including Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Kalahandi and Kandhamal have received heavy rainfall since Tuesday.
