The BJP and the Congress locked horns in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh on Monday after a video purportedly showing Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar’s son talking to a “middleman” about several crore rupees emerged on social media.

The Congress alleged that the video showed Tomar’s son, Devendra Singh Tomar, discussing “bribe money”. It sought an ED probe, besides action by the Election Commission.

Terming the video “forged, fake and fabricated”, Devendra filed an FIR with the Civil Lines police and also sought removal of the video from social media.

City SP Rakesh Gupta said, “A case under IPC section 469 (forgery for the purpose of harming reputation) has been registered against unidentified persons and the matter is under investigation.”

Union Minister for Agriculture Tomar is the BJP’s candidate from Dimni (Morena) seat for the November 17 Assembly polls.

Controversy erupted after AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra highlighted the video during a rally in the Dhar district. “Every young person knows this government runs on commissions… A video was released yesterday, discussing the son of a central agriculture minister, talking about thousands of crores…,” Priyanka said.

In Bhopal, Congress’s national spokesperson Supriya Shrinate sought “an ED investigation and a separate judicial probe”.
