Two days after bike-borne robbers looted diamonds worth Rs 27 lakh from a courier staff, Bhavnagar police arrested two men on Saturday and recovered the stolen jewels.
Dayal Khambhala (44), a resident of Nirmalnagar in Bhavnagar and and employee of P Shailesh Angadia firm of Bhavnagar was robbed of diamond worth around Rs 27 lakh late on Wednesday evening. The incident had taken place when he was on returning from Palitana town of Bhavnagar district to his office in Bhavnagar. Police said that robbers had been following him since Palitana. When Khambhala and two other couriers got down from bus and got into an auto-rickshaw for Nirmalnagar, one of the robbers also took the same auto-rickshaw and sat beside its driver.
The robber, who had covered his face with a handkerchief got down from the rickshaw near Vitthalvadi and pretended to pay the fare to the driver. Meanwhile, as the auto stopped, two robbers on a motorbike threw chilli powder in Khambhala’s eyes, stabbed on his arm and made away with a bag containing 79 parcels of diamond, he had stated in his complaint.
BhavnagarA Division police nabbed two of the three robbers from Nari Chowkadi on Bhavnagar outskirts on Saturday when they got down from a private bus coming to Bhavnagar from Surat. They have been identified as Dharmesh Gohil (24) and Bharat Algotar (23), both residents of Palitana.
“We recovered a punctured bike from bushes near Jail circle in the city after the robbery. We detected traces of chilli powder on the bike. This helped us eventually nab the duo. We also recovered the diamond hidden in the bushes near Jail Circle,” A Division police inspector Raju Chaudhary said on Sunday.
