Darshana Deshmukh, BJP MLA from Nandod in Narmada, Monday lashed out at party workers “who have been insulting” her and threatened to resign if the voters did not “avenge” what she has faced.

Deshmukh was speaking at a Diwali Sneh Milan event in Nandod, where Union Minister of State for Communications, Devusinh Chauhan, was also in attendance.

“Those who think, ‘I am great and the BJP runs because of me’, should forget it. BJP runs because of veteran leaders and grassroot workers who are sitting here and who have given their time to strengthen this party. You tell me if I have ever insulted you or if I have turned you away? If I have done so then I should not be getting all this (opportunity)… But, God is my witness,” she said.

The outburst came just after Chauhan rebuked the Narmada district administration as well as elected representatives, including Deshmukh, for their “disinterested and incompassionate” work in ensuring benefits of government schemes reaches the beneficiaries.

Stating that even young BJP workers had been mocking her, Deshmukh said, “It has never happened in the history of the BJP or the Narmada district BJP that an MLA is insulted in public… Are you trying to prove that you are big enough to hurt the party? This is the party for which so many people have given their lives and so the BJP has become the number one party.”

Deshmukh urged the voters to “teach a lesson” to those who have been insulting her and threatened to resign. “If you wish to see me for the next four years as MLA, then these people insulting me have to pay the price,” she said.

Bharuch MP Mansukh Vasava, who has also made similar allegations in public, said, “These are not matters that she should speak of from the dais. Such matters are to be taken to the party head for resolution.”
